Raincoat isn’t widely noticed as Kimono costume?
Rain coat is called “Ama coat”. “Ama” means rain.
Raincoat isn’t shaped by what is fashionable. In other words, Raincoat is always classic style.
The cloth is mainly Syuzu and patterns are plain check and stripes.
If you have one, you can wear for years.
But recently more colorful and stylish patterns becoming popular.

Raincoat fills a large portion of Kimono, so it’s important to choose carefully.
Materials
The cloth of Syuzu has gloss, so the style is getting more fashionable.
There is synthetics fiber but it’s nice to have silk cloth.
Raincoat is made of water-repellent cloth.
For summer, popular types are Sha which means “plain gauze” and it can be seen through Kimono.
There is a two-piece rain coat and if you wear only Haori part, you can change the style.
It’s so light as a feather and convenient to portable.
Going Out On The Rainy Day
It’s necessity to have rain coat but there are other types of Kimono.
Kimono
When you didn’t have raincoat, you can walk with wearing synthetics fiber Kimono.
It looks like a silk Kimono but you can do laundry and it’s very easy to carry.
Plus if you want to wear silk Kimono, you can use waterproof spray.
Umbrella
For the rainy day, you can put an umbrella both of Japanese and European style.
Let’s choose a rain coat which has similar color of Kimono.
Zouri
Zouri has special toe covers and of course, it is waterproofing.
Plus sole of Zouri made in rubber so that you don’t slip.
