Komon is known as street clothes and everyday wear.

It’s said that a large amount of Komon floating around in Kimono market.

The details of Komon

Komon is fashionable Kimono and little patterns are dyed the whole cloths.

The status of Kimono is under Tsukesage and upon Tsumugi plus Omeshi.

Komon is named for the “little pattern”, but from the late of Meiji Era definition has changed.

People started to recognize that Komon means printing patterns as a generic name.

 

Length of the Kimono cloth is generally 12 meters and the same patterns are printed repeatedly.

One of the special features is that patterns are printed up and down.

If you see patterns which flipped upside down, you can tell it’s Komon.

There are more arranges of printing, printed partially, looks like the plain color (because the patterns are too small so we can barely see) and so on.

 

Komon doesn’t need any family crest on the cloth because it’s not a formal Kimono.

Types of Komon

Mainly Komon is categorized as casual Kimono but these days we can see more formal Kimono and casual Kimono.

Formal Komon

For the formal scene, traditional and elevated patterns are printed. For example, dynasty or lucky omen patterns.

Plus if you tight weaved Nagoya Obi, it becomes the semi-formal attire.

If you wear much less printed Komon and weaved Fukuro Obi or Nagoya Obi, it becomes a classy style for your friend’s wedding.

 

The other type is Tsukesage Komon which all of the patterns are printed turned-up.

 

Casual Komon

There are so many cute and edgy patterns of Komon like animals, flowers and more.

 

If you tight dyed Nagoya Obi or Fukuro Obi, it’s more fashionable and fun to wear!

Plus accessories change the style differently.
