About Furisode

Kurotomesode is a prime formal kimono for married women and furisode is also a prime formal one for unmarried women.

Unmarried women wear furisode at coming-of-age ceremony, wedding, party and new year’s day.

The difference is length of the sleeves. There are three types of sleeves and called ofurisode, tyufurisode and kofurisode.

The length of ofurisode sleeves : over 115cm. Like shoulder to ankle.

The length of tyufurisode sleeves : from 86cm to 115cm. shoulder to calf.

The length of kofurisode sleeves : from 76cm to 86cm. also called nisyakusode.

Women wear ofurisode as bridal costume and tyufurisode is for a coming-of-age ceremony, graduation ceremony, and party.

These days,women’s height is getting taller,so ofurisode is often worn.

Pure white furisode for bride and utikake is categorized as ofurisode.

So people started to call those kimono as honfurisode to distinguish.

It had five or three family crests but nowadays it became very rare thing.

The name furisode was born in Edo period.At the time, furisode was worn by child and unmarried women.

So long sleevs meant youth. After marriage,it was custom thing to cut sleeves and remake to tomesode.

 

Patterns and style of dressing

About furisode

Furisode has many of colors and patterns are drawn all over the cloth. So it’s unbelievably gorgeous!

Furisode has variety of designs like traditional, modern, romantic, and etc.

For formal scene, artisan draw the Yuzen process of dyeing,tie-dyeing, do embroidery and plate with gold leaf.

The cloth of furisode uses crepe, figured satin and woven pattern.

Lately, we can wear lots of affordable chemical fiber furisode and fukuro obi.

On the other hand, kofurisode is worn at the graduation ceremony.

Classic style is hakama style (formal divided skirt) with wearing nagabaori and knitting boots.

 

About obi

Special features of obi is that you can fasten as you want.

Popular ways are sparrow, rose, butterfly, wing and arrows.

Useful tip is fasten obi a little bit higher.

Sparrow way looks opening two fans on the top of obi.

Arrow way also looks two fans from left shoulder to right side.

About accessories

We put on two colourful collars, thick and round obijime and volumed obiage which are tie-dyed.

Plus, big design patterns of bag and other accessories are pearfect for furisode.
